How it’s calculated
Fuel = total kilometres × litres per 100 km ÷ 100 × price per litre. Accommodation = nights × the nightly price for the entire group. Food = days × people × daily food per person. Add other group costs, then divide the total by people. This is arithmetic using your quotes, not a regulated 2026 rate or a live price feed. NZTA’s fuel-efficiency guidance explains why actual consumption can vary. Use a measured consumption figure for the loaded vehicle.
Worked example
600 km at 8 L/100 km and 2.80 per litre costs 134.40. Three nights at 220 cost 660. Four days of food at 50 each for two people cost 400. With 100 other costs, the total is 1,294.40, or 647.20 each.
Before you use the result
Keep all amounts in the selected currency; changing the selector relabels amounts and does not exchange currencies. Nightly accommodation is for all rooms together. Include taxes, parking, tolls, cleaning fees and activities in other costs. Fuel use may rise with towing, hills or traffic. Unequal cost sharing and electric-vehicle charging are outside this model. Accommodation search is a separately labelled Stay22 affiliate slot, shown only when configured, and does not populate this budget automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Is accommodation per person?
No. Enter the price per night for the entire group, including all rooms. Food is entered per person per day.
Does changing currency convert prices?
No. Enter all costs in one currency. The selector only changes the displayed currency label.
Are hotel prices live?
The budget uses your inputs. Any enabled Stay22 accommodation search is a separate affiliate service; its prices are not automatically included.
